Diablo III Disaster

oh Game of Thrones Memes

This post is relevant for the non-Diablo player (mainly because, let’s be honest, this week you’re taking “sick” days and not doing anything but play this game and NOT catching up with any website). Now, most of you who will be completely engrossed by this game won’t agree, but this week’s nerd comedy gold can be summed up in a simple phrase: “Error 37″.

The list of users who could not log into the single player game due to server issues is a mile (plus!) long, and Diablo took the servers down not once but twice on launch day. Isn’t this what beta testing is for? Continue reading

Black Ops 2: Not That Black

Blops 2. Future future. Now I don’t honestly know why everyone, including myself, is in a tizzy that Black Ops 2 takes place in the future. It’s really only 13 years in the future. And by the time the game comes out, it will be closer to 12 years. That’s not that bad. There’s not going to be laser beams or teleportation devices or anything, it will still be decently grounded. What I have a problem with is the idea of black ops in the future, and specifically in this game. Continue reading

Review: Comic Con Episode IV: A Fan’s Hope

This past weekend, Morgan Shurlock’s new film Comic Con Episode IV: A Fan’s Hope was released in select cities and became available on iTunes and TV Networks nationwide.

Any sort of nerd convention from comic books to anime or video games has a certain type of fan base. Half of the attendees rarely climb out of their parents’ basement, while the other half are this mix of social nerds. The die-hard fans and the people who think nerds are cool and aspire to one day BE a fan. This movie does a great job covering all the fan types at conventions, while also managing to provide a “Nerd Conventions 101″ for those non-nerds who don’t really get the whole convention/cosplay lifestyle.

PAX POX and Post-Con Depression

Three years ago at PAX 2009, nearly 100 cases of the H1N1 virus broke out throughout the sister convention in Seattle. This year to try and combat the fury of germs that is unleashed upon the thousands of nerds at PAX East, organizers provided hand sanitizer in the goodie bags (that you would have received had you waited in line). That was about all of the observable efforts that went into containing any sort of sickness that may be gliding across the convention. Yet alas, a small handful of friends and many Tweeters that attended have what is being dubbed the “PAX pox” (its just a general sickness but sounds more dramatic than “a cold” or “the flu”). This warning could have been beneficial if it had been posted PRE-PAX but alas, hindsight 20/20. Even on the PAX website, a simple warning for attendees to wash their hands regularly, not bite their nails (guilty), and just be sanitary smart while touching gaming controllers and keyboards that hundreds of others caressed as well.

While some PAX attendees have been ill, others have been lamenting on Twitter about how their yearly three day recess has come to an end. Complaining about their cubicle walls, dorm rooms, quiet life and loneliness and how they’re already waiting for PAX East 2013.
